|
The
current name of the town, established in 1862 by royal
decree, is composed of two parts the first of which
refers to the name that was the 1315 Villa Sanctae
Mariae Maioris. This in turn took its name from the
house formed the places of the former city abandoned
after the barbarian invasions, and that it was taking
form as the centerpiece church of Santa Maria Maggiore.
The second half ago, however, refer to the ancient city
of Capua, which flourished in Roman times in those same
places up to the facts already mentioned that decreed
the abandonment and re of a new Capua, currently located
within walking distance from the current SANTA MARIA
CAPUA VETERE. |
